The ROTC Course Path
Army ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) is one of the best leadership courses in the country. Upon graduation from Army ROTC, you will earn the gold bar of a Second Lieutenant and be commissioned into the Active Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard and become a leader for life.
The Basic Course
Takes place during your first two years in college as elective courses. It normally involves one elective class and lab each semester along with the requisite physical training and field training exercises.
You will learn basic military skills, the fundamentals of leadership, and start the groundwork toward becoming an Army leader. The Basic Course may also include the summer training course, Basic Camp.
You can take Army ROTC Basic Courses without a military commitment.
The Advanced Course
Takes place during your last two years in college as elective courses. It normally includes one elective class and lab each semester in addition to physical training and field training exercises, plus Advanced Camp during your junior summer.
You will learn advanced military tactics and gain experience in team organization, planning, and decision-making. To benefit from the leadership training in the Advanced Course, all Cadets must have completed either the Basic Course or have attended Basic Camp.
Entering the Advanced Course requires a commitment to serve as an Officer in the U.S. Army after you graduate.
Classes
Military Science and Leadership classes are elective courses. All course materials are provided free of charge. Credit applies to your Trevecca transcript.
A Trevecca student who has earned a minimum of 18 credit hours in military science courses will have the Trevecca minor requirement waived.
Uniforms & Equipment
All required uniforms and equipment for the program are provided free of charge.
Summer Training, Internships & Professional Development
- Required summer internship (Advanced Camp) between junior and senior years
- Additional fully funded internships and training opportunities at a variety of locations across the globe
- Opportunities to attend Airborne, Air Assault, Mountain Warfare, and other schools are available to those who qualify
Commitment After College
Army ROTC students who receive an Army ROTC scholarship or enter the Army ROTC Advanced Course must agree to complete a period of 4 or 6 years of service with the Army.
- Cadets may choose to serve full time in the Army for 4 years with 4 years in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)
- Cadets may choose to serve part-time in the U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a civilian career for 6 years with the remaining 2 in the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)
Enrolling in the Army ROTC Basic Course does not involve a commitment of service to the Army unless you have received an Army ROTC scholarship.
