Trevecca & Army ROTC
Trevecca Nazarene University has long offered its students access to Army ROTC through a cooperative agreement with the host program in Nashville. Students enroll full-time at Trevecca, take Military Science courses through the host battalion, transfer credit back to Trevecca, and upon successful completion of both the degree and the ROTC program receive a commission as a Second Lieutenant along with their Trevecca diploma.
This cross-town arrangement allows Trevecca students to receive the same benefits, compete for the same scholarships, and train alongside cadets from the host and other partner schools.
The ROTC Tradition
The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps was established by the National Defense Act of 1916 under President Woodrow Wilson. Military training had existed on civilian campuses earlier, but the 1916 Act brought it under a single federally controlled program.
ROTC expanded the pool of commissioned officers beyond the service academies and created a direct link between higher education and national defense. Today Army ROTC is the largest commissioning source for the U.S. Army, producing thousands of officers each year for the Active component, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve.
Scholarships, the two-year program option, and monthly stipends have made the path to officership accessible to students from a wide range of colleges and backgrounds—including faith-based universities like Trevecca.
